The purpose of being a RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) is to ensure that employers, yoga students and members of the general public can be confident that registered teachers have met a range of stringent registration criteria before receiving accreditation to provide services.

A Yoga Teacher who registers with the Yoga Alliance Registry earns the title of Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). The teacher Registry is not a certification program; it is a listing of teachers who meet our minimum international requirements for teaching experience and have completed their trainings at a Registered Yoga School. Yoga Alliance’ s RYT's are recognised internationally as meeting the highest level of ongoing accreditation.

Registration Guidelines
* We do not accept RYT applications from teachers who completed their training with a non-registered school.
* All applicants must complete training at a RYS-200 or RYS-500 in order to be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance.
* There are currently no alternate or Grandparenting options for registration.
* You may upgrade your existing RYT Credential or add a specialty Designation after completing a program with a Registered Children's Yoga School (RCYS), Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS) or RYS-300 (see Designations below).
* You can verify if your school is currently registered by searching for them on our Directory.

A Yoga Teacher may apply for one of our Designations based on the number of training hours completed at a RYS. The Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) Designation distinguishes RYTs with significant teaching experience. Read more about the different Teacher Categories Designations.

Standard Designations for Yoga Teachers include:
RYT- 200
Two Specialty Designations are also available:
RCYT - Registered Children's Yoga Teacher
RPYT - Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher
In order to qualify for one of our specialty Designations, a teacher must first register as a RYT 200 or higher. (Review the RYT Designations).

Continuing Education
All RYT's must complete Continuing Education hours every three years to maintain their registration and continue to grow their yoga knowledge and teaching skills. Read more about the Continuing Education requirement.
