Our minimum Yoga Teacher standards are in accordance with the International Yoga Federation (IYF), Yoga Alliance's world-wide and similar international yoga bodies. (We give full acknowledgement, credit and gratitute to the karma Yogis and Yoginis for the development of the Yoga standards and concepts)

200-Hour Standards
These are the standards required by Yoga Alliance South Africa to register a Registered Yoga School (RYS) 200-hour foundational yoga teacher training track. This training should adequately prepare trainees to teach a general adult population. Topics for registered teacher trainings must be relevant to the five educational categories. Registered schools must provide a minimum number of hours of study for each category. Learn more

300-Hour Standards
This school provides a 300-hour training that meets or exceeds our 300-hour standards, which are for advanced study. A school can register its 300-hour advanced program only if it also offers foundational training through its RYS 200 or RYS 500 program. A teacher who has completed both a RYS 200 training and a RYS 300 training is eligible to become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) 500. Learn more

500-Hour Standards
The 500-hour standards combine the requirements of the RYS 200 foundational standards with the RYS 300 advanced standards into one syllabus and a single program offering. Learn more

Children's Yoga Standards
A Registered Children's Yoga School (RCYS) must incorporate training in childhood developmental stages from ages 4-15. Learn more

Prenatal Yoga Standards
A Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS) must incorporate training for teaching pregnant yoga students in each trimester of pregnancy. Learn more

RYS Faculty Requirements
Principle Trainer(s) are required to teach a minimum number of Contact Hours for each designation in the Yoga Alliance Registry. Learn more

Contact and Non-Contact Hours
Contact Hours are in-person classroom hours taught in a dedicated yoga teacher training environment. Non-Contact Hours are the time spend outside the classroom doing assignements, research etc.
